What the hell is that ??! ...
Datum: 09.05.2008
I found this on David Jaffe's blog, from a TMFan.
I searched a lil bit on the Web and found this uk.psx.ign.com/articles/065/065780p1.html.
A Twisted Metal Movie was planned 10 years ago ! And there are still no movie or concrete planning. The only thing i found was some rumours, wishes and conceivabilities how a TM: Movie would looks like.
I think everyone would like to see an real great twisted metal movie with dark ambience  like Sin City. It would be an real good idea and something new 4 everyone.
I hope the developer's think about this and we see a movie at any time.

We also still working hardly on this page. As you can see nothing changed in the construction progress for a long time. Thats because this site would be much bigger than we projected and we had to overwork our complete concept.
We will update the construction progress in the upcoming weeks.

Ok ya'll...that's all she wrote for now...chat soon!

David

ps. just got an email from Drew, one of the producers on the TM:HEAD ON port. He's at a focus group for the new, TM BLACK levels down in LA. He says we're getting 8's, 9's, and 10 out of 10 ratings for FUN FACTOR (the only rating I ever care about)!!! Man, that is sweet! I have no clue how many people buy ports and who is still buying PS2 games (I hope alot!) but man I think we've all done great work on this title. Head On looks great, the Lost Levels- if I may say so- are really fun, and I love all the bonus content. I hope people give us a chance! But either way, I'm feeling really really proud of the game the team has made right now. Great news from focus groups are always a nice way to cap off a day :)

LEVEL DESIGN MIX AND MATCH
Datum: 07.09.2007
As some of you know, I was not involved in Twisted Metal:Black 2 while it was originally in production. I was tied up on God Of War at the time and could only watch from afar as Sweet Tooth and the boyz (yes, I'm kidding with the 'z') had another go. But for reasons to be revealed in the upcomming TM Doc, TM:BLACK 2 was canned and for a while, those levels just sat around, collecting virtual dust.

Well now we're bringing some of the coolest levels back to life and putting them on the port of TM:HEAD ON in a bonus game we're calling TWISTED METAL:LOST. Lost will have a handful of the levels (prob. 5) from the cancelled TMB2. And these lost levels are what I've been working on the last few weeks. Take a look:

So I sit here in San Diego- as well as the days I'm out in Utah- and we try to figure out how to get these levels to play great, especially in multiplayer. I send my little photoshopped images with my chicken scratch all over them out to the magic makers in Utah and then sit anxiously, waiting for a new built to go up on the network to see if I've guessed right in the changes I've asked for ...and they are all guesses, believe me! Sometimes we get lucky and it plays great...other times it's crap and we go back to the drawing board.

...

Ok, heading to work (which means going to get a bagel and then coming right back here to my office to focus on Twisted Metal)...hope things are going well for all ya'll out there! Shit man, fall is coming! I'm so jazzed! Halloween stuff is already up at Rite Aid and I can sense the shift in the air....so great man! So ready for fall! Ok, see ya!

Visiting with old friends...
Datum: 23.08.2007
Out in Utah for the next few days, tuning and tweaking levels for Tm:Lost and Tm:Head On. Man, being with these characters, these cars, being in this world, it feels like visiting with old friends...again! I thought I was done with car combat after Black but I'm surprised at how much fun I am having! Lots of passion for this little port, I have to say. I really hope you guys/gals dig what we are doing! Here's some quick pics:

That's the car ROADKILL racing thru the Hollywood level of TM:HEAD ON. The team is in the processes of resing up the textures so it will look much nicer on the PS2 that it did on PSP. They are off to a great start!

Every TM game has 30-40 pages of tweaks. Here's just one of the pages, car dynamics. Today I was working with Scott to tune the car speeds, turn radius, decide how much skid/slide the vehicles should have. I am starting to feel when we made Black, we made too chaotic of a game. The ability to focus on the action and play in a more strategic way got lost for many players. On the port we are toying with dialing it back a bit, exploring the idea of getting back to what made the earlier TM games so much more accessable.

...

Ok, so there's a photo tour of my day. Had to get up at 3:45am to catch a 6:15 flight to Utah so I am friend. Heading to bed. Night ya'll!

For folks who played Twisted Metal:Black, Scott drove me by the school that was the concept art inspiration for Blakcfield Asylum! I never knew it was based on a real school...and man, it looks so close! Pretty eerie to me!

++++++++++++++++++++
EDIT#1- Just to be clear, the port of TM:HEAD ON does NOT count as our first title in the Sony 3 game deal...it's a port we are doing and THEN we start full time work on game #1. But unless the powers that be shoot us down mid-pro, we know what game #1 will be, the concept art is fucking amazing, and I am crazy in love with game #1 already. Hope ya'll like it when you see it in a bit...

Edit #2- Ok, so my comic-con post is coming soon but I can't contain my excitement so:

How fucking cool is that?!?!

Ok, back to the original post:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So, as some of you may have heard, today is my last day at Sony.

After 14 years, I’m leaving the mothership that has protected me, nurtured me, sustained me, taught me, and- in the early days when I was an insecure kid who didn’t know any better-defined me.

Scott Campbell and I are starting a new games company called EAT SLEEP PLAY. We're teaming up with a host of the key folks from the Twisted Metal games (not to mention many of the other great Incognito/Singletrac games) and trying to give this indy game thing a shot! I’ve worked with these folks- on and off- for about 13 years and we figured it was high time to pull back the sheets and jump into bed together all permanent like.

We have a 3 game console/handheld exclusive deal with Sony and hope to have our first original game out sometime in 2008. In the meantime, we’ll be putting out a port of TWISTED METAL: HEAD ON this Xmas season. The port- going from PSP to PS2- is pretty cool for a port because:

- It has the original HEAD ON title but it’s now running at 60fps and has resed up textures as well as some gameplay tweaks.
- It has 5-7 levels from the never released TWISTED METAL BLACK: PART II.
- It has a documentary on the history of the series.

So for a port, we think it’s a pretty sweet package and a pretty good deal. We're also trying to get the powers that be to throw in an art book that ships with the game (nothing fancy, just something packed in with the disc).

So the new company will be based out of Utah, but I’ll remain here in San Diego, working from my home office. No real difference between the way I’ve worked with SingleTrac/Incog over the years, so we don’t expect much to change, other than the fact that all of us now own a piece of the company.

Again, we are working with Sony and that just feels great. We met with some other interested parties but at the end of the day, Sony is our home, our family, and we’re really thrilled and honored they wanted to work with us and continue the relationship we’ve spent almost 15 years cultivating. So in many ways, it’s like very little has changed, other than the pay cut.

But it’s what we wanted: to go independent and see where we could steer our very own ship. Granted, our new ship is no longer the grand, unstoppable beast that is Sony. Instead, it’s a smaller vessel, scrappy even, manned with a crew of experienced sailors who felt the need to venture out into the unknown seas and and see what we could see. And the cool thing is, a small as our ship is, it’s not the least bit scary. It’s exciting as hell. It feels right; like the time is right, the crew is ready, and the grand voyage is just beginning.

As always, I hope you guys/gals will join us on our journey (ok, enough with the shitty metaphor). As soon as I can reveal more about our new titles, I will share all. Maybe in the next 8-12 months, I would imagine, but who knows.

Anyway, so there’s my big news. As I said, it’s really big news for us, we’re real excited, and we hope our new company name- Eat Sleep Play- becomes synonymous with some of the most fun games of the future.

Ok, my oldest kid is awake. Gotta get her dressed for the day, then head upstairs to report for my first official day of work. Oh, and stay tuned for my ‘report’ from Comic Con. I had a BLAST yesterday. I wish I could go back today for day #2, but hell, I got games to design!

Talk to ya’ll later!

Ad Hints at Twisted Metal on the PS3?
Datum: 18.07.2007
The image of a clown face-shaped mushroom cloud rising over a barren landscape set off years of pent up emotions on NeoGAF, yesterday. With a PlayStation 3 logo in the lower right corner of the art, fans began to speculate that the black-and-white image signaled Sweet Tooth's return.

It looks like those fans are going to have to keep hoping.

The image originated on the portfolio website of Frederik Samuel, who dabbles in the advertising, graphic and webpage design. Although the entire site was down this morning, a Google search of the original address and a click of the "Cached" button brought up the blog that launched a thousands message board posts. Although the image was removed, the site did let on that the project was a product of TBWA, Paris and Art Director Philippe Taroux.

When reached by phone this morning, Taroux said the image was one of many from a general Sony campaign.

"The idea of a clown is not linked to one game," he said. "It's an explosion of fun."

Taroux said Sony didn't request the cloud be in any specific shape.

Alex Armour, a public relations specialist for Sony Computer Entertainment America, had not seen the ad in question this morning but did have an answer for Twisted Metal fans wondering if a new version of the franchise was headed their way.

"No," Armour said. "We don't have anything in the works at this time."

Twisted Metal Documentary
Datum: 02.07.2007
Hey! We are going to be shooting a documentary/round table discussion on the Twisted Metal series. The piece will be used for something I can't talk about right now (sorry about that!) but for those out there who consider themselves fans of the series, I was hoping you could do us a favor:

We are trying to make a list of the issues/questions we want to address in the doc and we want to make sure we hit the things Twisted Metal fans want to know about. So:

If you have any questions that you would like us to answer/address in the doc, please send them to the comments section in this blog. These can be questions about the series overall, or about a specific title in the series. And the questions can be as specific or macro as you'd like them to be. If we use your question, let us know if we can mention your name or handle in the doc; if you don't want us to, let us know in the comment.

Not sure how many Twisted fans are reading this blog but if you are out there, let me know if you can help us out!

Thanks in advance!

David
